Somewhere between truth and feeling

Gloria Laing writes like a true singer-songwriter. Not to impress, but to capture something before it slips away.

Originally from New Zealand and now based in London, her sound feels rooted somewhere else entirely. You hear traces of Joni Mitchell, early Carole King, and that same loose, unfiltered energy of Alice Phoebe Lou.

It’s not about production. It’s about the song.

Her voice and melodies carry everything. Soft, but direct. No filter, no overthinking. Just saying what’s there, even when it’s still unclear.

After her first releases in 2019 quietly reached a wide audience, she stepped away for a moment. Not to disappear, but to reset. What she’s making now feels more grounded, more intentional.

Her recent work doesn’t try to give answers. It sits in the in-between. Moments of doubt, small realizations, things that only make sense after they’ve passed.

Gloria Laing doesn’t try to turn those moments into something bigger.

She just lets them exist.
